The use of the UVLED curing system has brought great improvements in inkjet printing systems. The advantages of low-viscosity ink, which does not penetrate the top layer of the material, compared to traditional systems include, among others, instant curing under ultraviolet light, the possibility of printing on any surface, low consumption (and the consequent savings in both energy costs and environmental impact), and the absence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emissions.
At UBS we are experts in developing coding and marking solutions for primary and secondary packaging based on UVLED technology. Our UVLED Curing Systems are specially designed for instant curing on all types of substrates, offering the best quality with the highest efficiency for industrial sectors as diverse as agri-food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, construction, beverage and food, and automotive.
UV ink is a monomer that remains liquid until ultraviolet light causes the molecules that compose it to bond. Through curing, the ink solidifies, forming a polymer. Fixation on the substrate is instantaneous, with no need for coatings or thermal drying.
After curing, UV ink is insoluble, allowing additional layers to be applied, resulting in prints with volume or texture.
The first ultraviolet curing systems used metal halide lamps. The advantages of this type of treatment were penalized by high energy consumption and the limited versatility of the lamps, which were also very expensive.
With the new century, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) demonstrated much higher efficiency, as their lifespan is much longer, they consume less energy, heat less (and therefore can print on materials with low thermal resistance), allow almost instant on/off without penalizing productivity, and do not produce polluting emissions.
Instant print fixation on all types of substrates: UVLED-based ink provides top quality results on porous and non-porous surfaces, such as glass, plastic materials, painted materials, paper, cardboard, wood, metal, etc.
Productivity: eliminating waiting times thanks to instant curing and no additional fixation operations after marking optimizes the printing process, so UVLED equipment improves productivity.
Savings: UVLEDs have such a long lifespan that they practically require no maintenance. Also, their energy consumption is very low.
Versatility and customization: UVLED curing printing systems are easily adaptable to any production line. In a highly competitive environment, effectively responding to clients’ specific needs has become an essential requirement.
Sustainability: UVLED curing generates no ozone or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and produces no odors. Thus, it is environmentally friendly and safe for operators’ health.
UBS continuously improves its UVLED curing systems, adapting them to market demands and specific customer needs.
Our equipment features the exclusive integrated safety system UVLED On Board Security System (OBSS), which prevents operator glare on the line.
We developed PWM technology, pulse width modulation, which adjusts curing power to variable speeds, avoiding product damage.
We enable two working modes: synchronized with the printhead (TTL) or standalone (activation time is configurable).
We use a air cooling system.
We optimize energy consumption.
UBS printers equipped with the UVLED curing system include the TJX UVLED Series for primary products, and the APLINK MRX UVLED and APLINK LCX UVLED series for secondary packaging.
